Assassination Attempt: I’m Not Distracted, Says Fayose

Former Ekiti State governor, Mr Ayo Fayose

By Oluwafunke Lasisi

Former Ekiti State governor, Mr Ayo Fayose,  has said that he was not distracted by the  attempt made to kill him  last  Tuesday by  yet-to-be identified assassins, saying rather, it  will strengthen him more in his determination to defeat Governor Kayode Fayemi at next year’s governorship  poll.

His declaration came as the Campaign Director General of Ayo Fayose for Governor, Mr. Owoseni Ajayi, asked the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

In a statement  signed by  the Director of Publicity and Research of Ayo Fayose Campaign Organisation (AFCO), Mr. Idowu Adelusi,  in Ado Ekiti  Saturday, Fayose said the attack has added impetus to his resolve to ensure that the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) government was sacked from the Ekiti Government House next year.

“I am unpertubed by the attack and I cannot be intimidated. The spate  of violence in the state, the murder of Ayodele Jeje and the attempt on my life are making the ACN government more unpopular.  I am advising all my supporters not to get disturbed. God is my refuge,” Fayose said in the statement.

Meanwhile, the Campaign Director General of Ayo Fayose for Governor, Ajayi,  has urged the police to unmask the attackers, saying the police should not wait until life is lost before they take drastic measure to  curb violence in the state.

He said that the attack on Fayose has exposed the plan of the ACN government to eliminate him and other People Democratic Party (PDP) leaders   before next year’s  election.
