Emenike |
Africa Cup of Nations highest goal
scorer Emmanuel Emenike has effectively being ruled out of the potential
explosive World Cup qualifying match against the Harambee Stars of Kenya after
cupping a fresh injury on Sunday.
Emenike will be out for at least
two months again after only returning to action on Sunday since sustaining a
thigh injury during Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign in South
Africa.
Surgery needed
According to an official statement
on Emenike’s Russian club website on Monday, the striker will undergo
arthroscopic surgery in the coming days to correct the latest injury suffered.
The Nigeria international damaged
knee ligaments on Sunday while playing against Anzhi and had to be stretchered
from the pitch.
Missing in action
The latest setback for Emenike
will see him miss Spartak Moscow's remaining fixtures in the Russian Premier
League as well as Nigeria's World Cup qualifying games against Kenya and
Namibia plus the FIFA Confederations Cup tournament in Brazil.
