Relatives of victims of the Dana airline plane that crashed
on June 3rd , yesterday berated the
Federal Government for restoring the airline’s operating licence when some of
the victims are yet to be identified.
They demanded that the result of the findings into the crash
which claimed 153 passengers and crew on board be made public. A relative of one of the victims, Mr. Seke
Shomolu, who was at the closed door meeting with Governor Babatunde Fashola,
said all the relatives present want action to be taken against Dana Air.
“We want to know why Dana Air`s operating licence was
restored and clearance given the airline to operate when we are still mourning.
Why Dana Air was cleared to start flying again? Why our government refused to
give safety the desired priority rather than profit? There are so many
questions the Federal Government needs to give answers to. The issue should not
just be swept under the carpet like that,” he said.
Another female relative, Mrs. Chizoba Majekwu, said, “We are
on the road to healing. But we are disappointed in the Federal Government’s
action so far. The incident occurred 103 days ago, and nobody has collected
insurance compensation. Some of the bodies are yet to be identified and the
airline is preparing to start operation. It is painful.”
